Safely Ending a Dog Fight
You never want to see dogs fighting, but it’s wise to be prepared. Here are tips to stay safe if it happens.

Early Intervention
If you see signs of a fight brewing, clap loudly or spray water at their noses to stop escalation.

Disengaging the Combatants
If they’re already fighting, dump a bucket of water on them.
If they’re locked together, find the aggressor (usually the one biting the other), and use your foot to drag its hind legs back. This is safer than using your hands.

Maintaining Control
Lifting a dog’s hind legs breaks their balance. Gently pull back until they let go, then lead them away.
Keep pulling them back to avoid a renewed attack or human injury. You can also move in a circle, using centrifugal force to turn their head away from you.

Effective Yet Careful
This back-leg-lift method is effective but requires caution. Dogs might re-engage, so separate them fully. Be prepared for potential injuries if timing isn’t perfect.
