Stopping Chase Behavior
If your dog barks at or chases bikes, skateboards, motorcycles, or cars, it can become a habit. Use these steps to curb the behavior.

Chase Bikes or Vehicles2

Start from Afar
Stay far away from traffic or bikes at first so your dog doesn’t immediately react.

Chase Bikes or Vehicles3

Desensitizing Gradually
Start with the vehicle (bike, skateboard, etc.) stationary, then move it gently so the dog gets used to the sight and sound. The goal is to make it seem normal.

Reward Looking Back at You
Redirect your dog’s attention. If they focus on the passing bike, use treats, play, or something fun to bring their focus back to you. Ideally, when a bike passes, they’ll glance at it then look to you for guidance.

Managing High-Prey Drive
Instinctive behaviors like chasing are tough to control, but consistent training over several months can reduce them significantly.
