Lifelong Paw Care
Overgrown nails can cause balance issues and even lead to arthritis, so trimming is crucial. Dogs need nail care their whole lives, so doing it gradually and correctly helps them feel safe. It might take a week or more to achieve each step.

Building Paw Trust
When feeding treats, gently lift your dog’s paw to practice a trimming motion. Only give the treat if they let you hold the paw without struggling. If they resist, release immediately.

Getting Used to the Tools
Touch each nail with the clippers.
While holding the paw, use a wooden matchstick and trim it to mimic the clipping sound.
After each “clip,” give a treat.

First Real Trim
When your dog is ready, trim just a tiny bit of the nail, then immediately offer a treat.

Slow and Steady Wins
The process can be long and a bit frustrating, but it’s worth it. Early success is just letting the clippers touch each nail without fear.
