These aren’t as famously toxic as chocolate or xylitol, but they can still cause serious problems. Keep them out of reach or feed sparingly if at all.
- Antifreeze: Tastes appealing to dogs but is highly toxic.
- Polyurethane glue: Tastes palatable, yet can solidify into a mass in a dog’s intestines.
- Raw meat, raw eggs, and raw bones: May contain salmonella and E. coli. Raw eggs can also interfere with vitamin B absorption, leading to skin and coat problems.
- Yeast dough: Expands in a dog’s digestive system, causing gas buildup and potentially life-threatening stomach cramps or torsion.
- Hops: Used in homebrewing; extremely toxic and can be fatal within six hours of ingestion.
- Onions, garlic, and chives: Large amounts can irritate a dog’s gastrointestinal tract and damage red blood cells.
- Coconut water: Contains high levels of potassium and is not recommended for dogs.
- Macadamia nuts: Can cause vomiting in dogs.
- Milk and dairy products: Can lead to diarrhea.
- Nuts (including almonds, pecans, and walnuts): High in oils and fats, which can cause pancreatitis if consumed in large quantities.
