Fear of the Vacuum

Fear of the Vacuum1

Does your dog bolt or bark at the vacuum the moment it appears? You can help them peacefully coexist with this “scary machine.”

Fear of the Vacuum2

Gentle Introduction
Bring the vacuum into the room, turn it on briefly, then switch it off.
Stand with the vacuum facing away from the dog, out of the dog’s “attack range.”

Fear of the Vacuum3

Increasing Security
Let your dog be on a higher spot (like a chair) if that makes them feel more confident. Often, a dog reacts defensively out of fear.

Fear of the Vacuum4

Calm Coexistence
While vacuuming, give your dog a peanut butter-stuffed toy or chew stick so they can focus on something else.

Fear of the Vacuum5

Expect Success
Your dog can definitely learn to tolerate the vacuum. Encouraging them to adapt fosters a more confident, less anxious pup.
