Calming an Overexcited Dog
Sometimes, when playing with your dog, they get too revved up and can’t settle. Here’s a way to calm them quickly.

The Time-Out Technique
Turn around and ignore them the instant they get too excited, facing away so they can’t see your face. They’ll quickly settle and look to you for guidance.

Resuming Playtime
Once they’re calm again, resume gentle play. The game itself becomes a reward for calming down.

Building Self-Control
Each time the dog becomes too wild, withdraw attention. Each time they offer calm eye contact, reward them with play. Over time, they’ll calm down faster.
