Stand Between Your Legs

Stand Between Your Legs1

Find “Middle”
“Middle position” means having the dog stand between your legs. This is useful in crowded places to protect the dog from being bumped or protect others from the dog’s playful nudges.

Guide Them In
Stand with your back to the dog.
While saying “Middle,” lure your dog through your legs with a treat. Keep a few small treats in hand to reward them repeatedly.

Practicing Position
As long as you hold treats and occasionally give them out, the dog will stay in that position.
Eventually, you can just say “Middle,” and the dog will do it on their own. Praise them and give a treat now and then.

Enjoy Close Contact
Once they learn it, dogs love standing in the middle position. They’ll often do it just to be closer to you.
