Room Patrol
Sometimes you might enter an empty room late at night. Train your dog to do a quick safety check to ensure no intruders are there.
Starting the Search
Walk into the house and point to the first room, saying, “Go check!”
Room by Room
After the dog returns to you, move with them to the next room and guide them to “check” again. Repeat for each room.
Praise Without Treat
Once the whole house is checked, praise your dog—no treats, just genuine enthusiasm.
Automation Takes Time
After about 20 days of this routine, your dog may check on their own when you say, “Go check,” while you stay at the door.
Enjoying the Mission
Most dogs come to love this “important” job, even without food rewards.
