Teach Your Dog to Go Home
Teach your dog to head home on their own—a useful skill if you need them to show you the way or if they wander off and neighbors complain.

Making Home Exciting
Start at your front door. Point to the house, use an excited tone, and say, “Go home!” Then open the door and run in with the dog.
As soon as you’re inside, rush to the cookie jar and give them a treat.

Increasing Distance
Next, practice from farther away. Point at the house and say, “Go home!”

The Same Finish Line
Sprint together and to the spot where you keep the treats.

Partner Practice
Work with another person. One person gives the command, and the other waits inside with the treats.

Clear Cues for Go Home
It’s easy for a dog to learn “go home.” Use a clear pointing gesture and a bright voice, so they quickly understand what you mean.
