Teach your dog to return to its own place—like its bed—and stay put.
Starting the Habit
Say “Go back,” and toss a treat onto the dog’s bed. If the dog goes to the bed, praise them right away.
Settling In
Encourage them to lie down on the bed, which helps them relax.
Tell them “Stay,” step back a few paces, then return and give a treat. Increase distance and time slowly.
Gentle Redirection
If the dog wanders off the bed, gently pick them up and put them back without using food, so they learn they must stay.
