Down

Down1

Learning to Lie Down
Once your dog knows “sit,” you can move on to teaching them to lie down comfortably on cue.

Down2

From Sit to Down
Start with “sit.” Hold a treat near the dog’s nose.
Say “down” and move the treat to the floor. You can place it right in front of them or a bit farther so they naturally lower themselves.

Down3

Adjusting the Lure
If the dog keeps standing up, try positioning the treat so they have to stretch downward. You can kneel on the floor beside them, making it easier for the dog to look down instead of up.
If the dog arches its back instead of lying down, lift the treat away until they get tired and lower their rear, then bring the treat closer to their nose.

Down4

Quick Reward
As soon as the dog lies down, reward them right away.

Down5

Patience Leads to Success
Some dogs learn more slowly, depending on age, leg length, or other factors. Most dogs will get it within two weeks.
