Potty Training

Potty Training1

Guiding Potty Habits
Take your dog on a leash to the designated potty spot.

Potty Training2

Capture “Potty”
Your dog may sniff around a lot and not potty right away. Stand still, don’t let them wander far, and repeat “Potty” every so often. Eventually, they’ll learn the cue.

Potty Training3
Praise
Wait until your dog finishes pottying, then praise and reward them. This way, they’ll understand that going potty after the command has a positive outcome.
Potty Training4

Potty on a Walk
If your dog goes potty during a walk, don’t turn around and go home immediately. They might think potty time ends the fun. Instead, let them enjoy the walk a bit longer before heading back.

Potty Training5

Figure Out Your Dog’s Potty Times
After waking up, after meals, after naps—be ready to take them out around these times for successful potty training.
If accidents happen indoors, don’t punish. Clean and deodorize the area instead, to discourage repeats.

Long-Term Success
Small dogs need more practice to develop consistent potty habits, and even if a puppy seems trained in a few weeks, they might still have accidents until they’re one or two years old.
